THE STORY

The team was founded by Orfeus Andreou from scratch with just an idea for something new, fresh and creative. At the age of 27, Orfeus, already convinced and tired of the behaviors of classic sports clubs, decided to start this venture based on sportsmanship and the idea of teamwork.
So in February 2022, together with Maciej Putala, they "started the engines" for the first training. Finding a field to host handball was a fairly difficult part of the project, especially in the Reykjanes area. Nevertheless, they did not give up and finally the first training took place on February 22, 2022 at the Garður indoor sporthall.
After finding the team's home base, the next step was to become an official club so that it could take part in Icelandic national championships. After many discussions and communication with Víðir football officials, the manager of the sports facilities of the municipality of Suðurnesjabær, Einar Karl Vilhjálmsson, and the excellent cooperation of Orfeus with the CEO of HSÍ (Icelandic Handball Association) Róbert Geir Gíslason, the Víðir Handball team was founded for the first time in history.

THE FOUNDER

Orfeus Andreou comes from Greece, specifically from the city of Volos in Thessaly. He started handball at the age of 11 in the Evrytos team and then continued in the men's section of Kentavros (Volos Handball Club) in the A2 category of Greece. After completing his military service, he decided to try his luck in Poland, playing for WKS Śląsk Wrocław and Piotrkowianin in the Polish Superliga.
The next step in his career was on Icelandic soil, where after several difficulties he created the idea of Víðir Handbolti, where in addition to being the team's creator and manager, he is also involved in the competition as a player, having so far individually taken first place in the 2nd Division's scorers' table for the first three consecutive years in the team's history.
